Verizon’s Redbox application is a digital media platform that enables users to stream, rent, and purchase movies online
through a wide range of devices, including mobile phones, tablets (iOS and Android), smart TVs, LG and Blu-ray players,
Xbox consoles, and web browsers. The platform delivers a seamless entertainment experience by combining rich media content
with intuitive digital interfaces. As part of the project, an automation framework was developed to enhance testing efficiency,
ensure platform stability, and accelerate release cycles—supporting Verizon’s commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality
streaming services across multiple digital ecosystems.
Project Summary
- Developed an automation framework for their media application which allowed users to stream and purchase
movies online. This application is available on various devices such as mobile, tablets (iOS and Android), LG and
Smart TVs, XBOX, and Blue-ray players, as well as being accessible through web browsers.
- Utilised SeeTest and Selenium for the automation of the mobile and web applications, respectively.
- For the mobile application, Python with the ROBOT framework was used in conjunction with RIDE to develop the
automation scripts.
- Maintained the test data using a SQLite database to effectively manage data.
- For CE devices Selenium was used along with Java to automate the test cases, execute the test scripts using web
versions.
- Implemented the browsermobproxy tool to assist with the analysis of the applications behaviours and capture
performance data.
- Introduced the open-source mobile automation tool Appium to work alongside SeeTest and reduce license costs.
- Implemented Continuous Integration Testing using Jenkins and scheduled automatic triggering through the
platform. This helped to achieve continuous smoke testing and monitor the results effectively.
Key Achievements
- Developed and maintained automation scripts for CE devices and Mobile devices.
- As per Clients request quickly learned Jmeter and performed Performance testing for the RedBox application.
